The Sweetness of Friendship

Spending time this morning thinking about the blessing of friends in my life, including those of the four-legged, furry variety. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite quotes and sayings about friends and friendships and thought I’d share it, if only for my own benefit.  It is my hope that these brings a smile to your heart as you remember a special friend.

The Sweetness of Friendship

The Sweetness of Friendship

May God give you…For every storm a rainbow, for every tear a smile,
for every care a promise and a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share,
for every sigh a sweet song and an answer for each prayer.

Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.                                             ~Helen Keller

What is a friend?  A single soul dwelling in two bodies.  ~Aristotle

Meditate on These Things

Philippians 4:8 is one of my very favorite Bible verses:

Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report–if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy … meditate on these things.

I was inspired to create this image to complement a song written by Stephanie Sharp Hickman:

Philippians 4:8 :: Meditate on these things...

In these times of economic insecurity – both domestic and international – and the wars and strife all around the globe, together with the day to day irritants of life (not the least of which being all the in-your-face political drama), it’s all too easy to get hung up on worldly stuff and forget to focus of the things that really matter. I often meditate on this scripture when I find myself developing a negative attitude. It really helps me to return my focus to what is of true importance: the pursuit of God and sharing his love with others.

It is my prayer that this image might be a blessing to you; please feel free to download it as a desktop wallpaper image and otherwise share as you wish!

Set Apart

I am presently immersed in a 365-day Bible reading plan, courtesy of YouVersion. Yesterday’s Life Application Study Bible ® Devotion is based on Psalm 4:3 “Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him.” A blessed reminder that no matter how unworthy of answered prayer I might feel, that doesn’t matter.

Not one iota.

Because I have the gift of salvation and God’s promise of grace, when I am faithful, the Lord hears when I call. Oh, I may not get the answer I want, but I rest in the assurance that His answer will be just what I need.  Which, more often than not, is a refreshed perspective:

If you’re not currently engaged in a devotional plan, I encourage you to get engaged. Make up a plan on your own, or take advantage of one of the awesome reading plans developed by YouVersion, Bible Gateway, or one of the other readily available, free online programs. Just search for “Bible reading plan” and you’ll be presented with several options. (I really like the universal availability and consistent reminders the YouVersion plans offer.)

I knew I’d be blessed, but as is God’s way, the blessings of daily Word immersion are much more than I imagined!

Radiate Love

One of my favorite scripture verses – and a reminder of what we, as children of God, are called to do – is Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven….

This morning, I received a devotional from a friend that included this quote by Wilford Peterson:

Light, Strength, Courage, Wisdom, Love

Inspired by Matthew 5:16

As I read this, I was immediately reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew, which inspired me to create this for sharing. May it remind us to be obedient to His word and remember that even in the most difficult of circumstances, we are empowered to do all these things in Christ, who strengthens us.

Meet Me at Rainbow Bridge

A week ago today, our beloved Tinkerbelle had to leave this earth and our embrace, and head toward heaven to wait at Rainbow Bridge. I miss her terribly but I know God’s taking care of her and she’ll be waiting for our reunion, just as I am.  It has taken me a week to be able to look at pictures of my sweet puppy dog without sobbing incontrollably – I’m just barely able to see the screen as I type this – but I wanted to put together a collage to share, if only with myself.

I’d also like to share this beautiful poem that gives great comfort to those who’ve lost a beloved pet; I fully believe that Tink is there, along with our other pets Omar, Muffin, Edith Ann, LuluBelle and Minnie Kitty, waiting for our arrival so that we can all cross over into heaven together.

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
